The collection consists of two folders of papers concerning the convention: one countains the constitution and by-laws with the signatures of all its members, minutes of each meeting, all resolutions proposed, accepted or rejected, the full text of a convention address (probably that of Lucius Manlius Sargent (1776-1867)), notes referring to the handling of publications and their circulation, and a membership credentials certificate. The other folder consists of a book listing all delegates by county, their residence and local temperance societies, and many delegate-appointment letters from every town invited to participate in the convention.

John Collins Warren, surgeon and naturalist, was born in Boston in 1778, the son of Harvard physician John Warren and Abigail (Collins) Warren. He graduated from Harvard College in 1797 and began the study of medicine with his father. From 1799 to 1802 he studied medicine in Paris and London.
